Free Write- What I found interesting about the audio

My favorite audio of the three was the Edward Castronova talk on the economics, of video games. In it he breaks down staggering facts and figures comparing the real word to the synthetic one, such as the fact that 148 million Americans play video-games and 1 in 5 gamers are over fifty.  In games such as Everquest, World of Warcraft, there is a trade market of weapons and objects within the games.  People actually are making money in the real world by distributing upgraded objects that are very powerful in the video-games to other players.  In foreign countries, people are actually able to make a living making over salaries of various different real world occupations.  Castronova went onto the game during the presentation and showed prices of objects for sale in the marketplaces. Some wen for as much as 126 dollars.  Games has gone beyond the traditional elements which made them successful years ago. The idea was simply puzzles and challenges of interface with a beginning middle and end.  Games now have their own economies social networks and politics.  An interesting comment made by the audience was whether games today have become a form of escapism from the real world.  The response by the presenters was that it was becoming a way of life, because too many people are involved for it to be considered escapism.  This is an issue I definitely want to investigate and explore as i feel it is extremely important in today’s world.
